Haiti - Politic : 3 million Haitians are not registered in the national registers

In the perspective of the modernization and improvement of the quality of services, the National Archives of Haiti (ANH) will proceed in about 2 weeks to the inauguration of an annex to Delmas 39, a brand new building, meeting the standards of its function, which will make it possible, thanks to a vast digitization operation, to accelerate the process of registering of databases. This nationwide project will allow the ANH to issue the documents the same day that a request is made.

Wilfrid Bertrand, Director General of the ANH recalled that "Of the 11 million Haitians, there remain about 3 million to be registered in the records of the national archives" stating "this number concerns mostly rural populations [...]"

Regarding the use of Information Technologies, Bertrand reassured that a digital extract project is currently being tested, stressing that it was "a matter of time..."

In addition, he revealed that the ANH had initiated in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources Management (OMRH) a project called "Administrative Documents Management Program (PGDA)" which aims to bring together all documents of different ministries and other public institutions to classify them into databases and make them accessible to policy makers and researchers. The Implementation Manual for this project is already ready and will be implemented soon, as well as the text of the National Archives Policy.
