Haiti - FLASH : Violence and vandalism in Petit-Goâve, many damages !

Thursday, despite the promises of the Minister of National Education, the students of the Lycée Faustin Soulouque of Petit-Goâve continued for the 4th day with even more violence their protest movement.

Grouped on the high school court, very angry, high school students were protesting, still demanding the return to class, deprived of course because of a strike of teachers who demand their appointment and payment of their salary arrears.

Throwing stones they attacked the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Petit-Goâve invading the court of the TPI where they committed acts of vandalism, breaking persiennes, breaking windows, damaging air-conditioners, the water tower, tearing up electrical wires, throwing the flag of the court on the ground. The bâtonnat, the prosecution and the court room suffered the most damage.

Against the lawyers and court employees, the students threw stones and bottles and called them thieves. Some lawyers had to take off their suits to escape safely...

The assaults of the students who retrenched between each raid in the courtyard of their high school, lasted around 3 hours according to witnesses. The violence was so intense that the police had to remain at a distance to avoid being hurt by stones thrown from all sides, before finally being able to intervene and rescue the staff of the prosecution and restore public order.

In addition, the students have forbidden access to the school yard to the Director of Faustin Soulouque High School, Pierrevilus Jean Elius, who had to leave again.
