Haiti - Politic : Venezuela pays tribute to Alexandre Pétion

In a statement issued by the Chancellery, Venezuela reiterates its friendship and solidarity with Haiti as part of the 200th anniversary of the death of Alexander Pétion (29 March 1818), hero of the Caribbean nation, that the "Liberator" Simón Bolívar described as the author of Venezuelan freedom.

The President, Nicolás Maduro, emphasizes that Pétion is a paradigm of solidarity and Father of the two Homelands "his generous help to Francisco de Miranda and that decisive to Bolívar reaches this level of meaning."

Maduro emphasizes that Petion's social vision and unconditional help have significantly influenced Bolivar's conception of independence and its crucial struggle after his stay in Haiti. In his opinion "this fact has certainly changed the course of Venezuelan history forever."

In the name of his Government, the Bolivarian Head of State reiterated his "commitment to solidarity with the Haitian people, for his heroism and his exemplary struggles and to be the land that saw the birth and death of the great revolutionary Pétion."
