Haiti - Education : Cuba will learn to read and write to 240.000 Haitians

Since the beginning of the Cuban cooperation in the field of the education in Haiti 10 years ago, teachers have learned to read and write to over 160,000 illiterate with the method "Yes I Can" a rapid method world renowned for adult education. For Haitians recipients, this has been "a blessing" reported Leonela Inés Relys Díaz which collaborates in this literacy program in Haiti created in 1999 at the request of the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Cuban aid workers are planning to alphabetize this year 120,000 people in Haiti. The program's goal is to learn to read and write in Creole to 240.000 Haitians in the next 22 months in the Departments of the West, Southeast and North.

150 supervisors, more than 1,000 animators and 15 technicians will be involved in almost 9,000 schools. The cost of this cooperation is about $5 million fully financed by Venezuela.
