Haiti - DR : Nearly 35,000 Haitians deported or turned back in Haiti since the beginning of the year

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic reported that in March 2018, more than 11,500 Haitians were deported to Haiti or turned back to the Dominican border.

5,901 Haitians were turned back at the border while attempting to enter the Dominican territory illegally and 5,599 Haitians in an irregular migration situation were deported after being arrested during control operations on Dominican territory.

For the first 3 months of the year, nearly 35,000 Haitians were deported to Haiti or turned back to the border.

According to the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) during the first 3 months of the year, nearly 15,000 Haitians repatriated have been identified at official border crossings.

Ouanaminthe / Dajabon (North-East): 6,893 returnees.

Carisal / Comendador, Belladère (Center): 5,989 returnees.

Anse-à-Pitres / Pedernales (South-East) more than 1,500 returnees

Malpasse / Jimani: 290 returnees

Cornillon / Grand-Bois: 110 returnees.

These figures do not include Haitians turned back to the borders.

It should be noted that from July 2015 to March 2018, at the official and unofficial border points, have been identified nearly 263,000 Haitians that returned to Haiti (123,000 Haitians repatriated by the Dominican authorities and 139,990 returned voluntarily), to which must be added a total quasi-equivalent number of Haitian turned back at the border.
