Haiti - Education : 8th day of hunger strike

These last years, strikes and claims of the students are very frequent in the State University of Haiti (UEH) : Faculty of Medicine, Ecole Normale Superior, Faculty of Humanities, etc... The reforms announced for several years are slow to materialize...

Tuesday, hundreds of students from the UEH have manifested for requiring from the Rectorat: the adoption of measures to put an end to the hunger strike observed since 8 days per 5 students of the Faculty of Ethnology (FE), which one of them, has been hospitalized Monday to receive emergency care. Students from the FE, calling for better conditions of formation and the dissolution of the the decanal board, composed of 3 members which 2 had already resigned.

The demonstration started around 10am at the Institute for Advanced Study and Research in Social Science, has toured several faculties, before ending in front of the Rectorate.

Students on the course shouting hostile remarks against the president of the UEH Jean Vernet Henry and the two vice-Rectors that they accuse of immobility in the current crisis.

The demonstrators have promised to remain mobilized until the satisfaction of their claims and have indicated that the lives of students on hunger strike, now depended of the Rectors.
