Haiti - Politic : New stage in the reconstruction of the National Palace

On Wednesday, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by the engineer Fritz Cayot, Minister of Public Works and Yves Fritz Joseph Director of the National Laboratory of Building and Public Works (LNBTP), attended the official launch of the Geotechnical Study before provide technical data for the construction of the new National Palace, which could cost between 40 and 50 million US dollars according to the first estimate https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22818-haiti-flash-the-reconstruction-of-the-national-palace-could-cost-40-to-50-million-dollars.html

A series of 4 boreholes over 30 meters deep are already running in the space that was once the courtyard of the former National Palace, to collect data on the nature of the soil and determine its ability to accommodate the new construction, said Yves Fritz Joseph who also stressed the importance of these studies who will have to provide fundamental data on the site's ability to withstand high magnitude earthquakes.

He explained that the first data collected indicates that the land on which is class C, ie partially clayey terrain. According to the technicians this soil, is not of very good quality, but would be however controllable and suitable for the construction of the new building with some precautions. To do this the soil, because of the ability of the soil to accelerate seismic waves, reinforcement work will have to be carried out beforehand.

Aligning himself with the technical conclusions of Yves Fritz Joseph, who believes in the capacity of the field to welcome the new project, Minister Cayot, welcomed the confidence given to the technicians of the National Laboratory "This time, the State has taken" to signify that it is Government technicians who carry out these basic studies, which is essential for the construction of the new Palace.

Faithful to his will to lead by example, President Moses believes that it is necessary that the new Palace respects the seismic and anticyclonic standards to encourage the population to do the same and give a new direction to the construction industry in Haiti. Recalling that following the earthquake of 2010, the State has invested in the training of high-level technician, with a doctorate in geoscience, capable of carrying out major work likely to restore its pride to Haiti adding "Thanks to the contribution of these technicians, the Faculty of Sciences now has a master's program open to young people."
