Haiti - Politic : France welcomes the renewal of the mandate of the Minujusth

During the one-year extension of the mandate of the Minujusth this week, by the members of the Security Council of the United Nations Mission https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24065-haiti-un-the-security-council-extends-for-one-year-the-mandate-of-the-minujusth.html François Delattre, the Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, welcomed the renewal of the mandate and declared :

"France welcomes the adoption of resolution 2410, which renews for one year the mandate of the United Nations Mission for Justice in Haiti, Minujusth, and prepares its withdrawal for a transition in October 2019. The Minujusth continue until then its mandate based on three pillars: strengthening the national police, the consolidation of the rule of law and monitoring the situation of human rights. We regret that this mission is not unanimous in the Council while we all support the goal of a stable and prosperous Haiti.

Indeed, the tasks entrusted to Minujusth with regard to the professionalization of justice and the training of police forces represent the foundations of long-term stability and the conditions essential to Haiti's economic development. We encourage the Haitian authorities to seize this tool, put at their disposal by the United Nations, to consolidate the stability of the country and increase the well-being of the population.

The prospect of an exit strategy by October 2019 should not paralyze or affect the remarkable work of the women and men currently on the ground. The objectives identified by the Secretary-General, including the protection of the rights of Haitian citizens, give Minujusth and the Haitian authorities a horizon to move forward. It is now up to the Haitian state to appropriate these objectives in order to make cooperation with the United Nations a lasting success. Haiti can count on the full and entire support of France in this sense."
