Haiti - Reconstruction : 5th meeting of the IHRC this February 28

On 28 February 2011, will be held the 5th meeting of the Board of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC).

The IHRC Co-Chairs, Prime Minister of Haiti Jean Max Bellerive and former President Bill Clinton will meet with the IHRC's Board Members to discuss 13 new projects that will be voted on for approval as well as review projects already in progress.

Other topics to be touched upon will be the implementation of the strategy for the rest of the IHRC's mandate, which expires in October 2011, date on which its functions will be fully assumed by the Government of Haiti.

As well as the constraints to the achievement of the IHRC's objectives, the mobilization of support among stakeholders, and the securing of the required financial resources.

On February 15, the candidates Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly had attended an information session organized by the IHRC. At the meeting the Prime Minister Bellerive stressed to the candidates the need for reconstruction work to continue unimpeded during the coming political transition and beyond. The Prime Minister also outlined the function of the IHRC, its progress to date and its strategic plan, which will guide future efforts. While former President Bill Clinton stressed the importance of the next government to ensure the full participation and commitment of the international community to provide continued support.
