Haiti - Basketball : The NBA in the country to train and recruit young Haitian hopes

Friday a delegation of the National Basket Association (NBA) arrived in Haiti to detect talented young Haitians eager to make a career in basketball.

Saturday the NBA delegation composed of Troy Justice, Director of International Operations, Ron Nored, Head Coach (Long Island NBA League), Lisandro Miranda, International Recruiter for Dallas Maverick and Hernan Olaya, Development Director of the NBA Academy from Mexico, went to the Sport for Hope Center, participate in the launch of the first day of Jumpstart Camps organized in partnership with Digicel. An intensive camp for 72 young people (48 boys and 24 girls) selected during the detection camps organized across the country last April.

These young hopefuls of Haitian Basketball will follow during 2 days intensive training sessions with the NBA (Saturday and Sunday, May 13).

At the end of these two days, the 7 best players will face the 7 best of 8 other countries of the Caribbean as part of the Jumpstart NBA-Digicel.

The NBA-Digicel Jumpstart basketball program will train more than 430 young people between the ages of 12 and 16 from nine Caribbean countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and -Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The NBA delegation will leave Haiti on Monday, May 14.
