Haiti - Technology : Augmented reality and virtual tours of tourist sites

On June 8, the Ministry of Tourism and the École Supérieure d'Infotronique signed a memorandum of understanding for the launch of an augmented reality program and virtual tour of tourist sites. The objective is to develop new strategies to highlight and promote our tourism potential through new information and communication technologies.

This project with an envelope of 3 million gourdes will begin during the first 6 months by the enhancement of the Citadelle Henri Christophe, before starting two other phases aimed at enhancing the tourist heritage of the territories, thge creation of young jobs.

The steps of using this program are simple, just download an application (free) on your mobile phone and carry focus its camera on the photo of the site that you would like to visit. The application then provides you with information in different languages to present the history and geography of the site, as well as a virtual tour in 3D with the ability to take pictures simultaneously to the visit, all from the phone, without having to physically move.

This new technology will enable Haiti to put itself in the forefront of the Caribbean tourism market, facilitate the lives of more than one and promote the country's tourist sites on an international scale.

Note that in the context of augmented reality and the virtual visit, the Citadelle will be the first element of Haitian built heritage to be part of this vast program to which the Ministry of Tourism of Haiti and the School Superior Infotronique of Haiti (ESIH) have subscribed.
