Haiti - Health : UNFPA will launch two social projects in Haiti

On Sunday, Panamanian Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in office since October 2017 also United Nations Assistant Secretary General arrived in Port-au-Prince to discuss the impact of the Fund in Haiti.

During his stay, Dr. Kanem will meet with President Jovenel Moïse and other authorities in the country and participate in the official launch of two social projects in the health sector.

The first project "Resilience of maternal, neonatal and child health system" will benefit the departments of the South and Grand'Anse and will be jointly carried out by UNFPA, the United Nations Children's Organization (Unicef) and the UN Program for HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS)

The second project, supported by UNFPA to strengthen the midwifery profession, will be launched nationwide to save lives and promote the health of women, girls and newborns.

Recall that UNFPA in Haiti implements programs that respond to humanitarian needs and help develop basic maternal and reproductive health services, especially for the poorest and most excluded groups. It also implements measures to protect women and girls from gender-based violence and increases the ability to generate reliable data on demographic trends.
