Haiti - Politic : The National Federation of Mayors of Haiti requires the departure of PM

After many public positions, following the crisis that has shaken Haiti since July 6, including those of the Private Sector Economic Forum https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24911-haiti-economy-strong-reaction-of-the-economic-forum-face-the-riots.html , of parliamentarians from both chambers, human rights organizations, the Collective of 4 December https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24927-haiti-politic-the-collective-of-december-4-denounces-the-negligence-of-government-and-the-irresponsibility-of-the-executive.html of the Protestant Federation of Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24924-haiti-politic-the-protestant-federation-of-haiti-in-favor-of-a-change-of-government.html and of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24931-haiti-riots-the-episcopal-conference-points-to-the-irresponsibility-of-leaders.html it is now the turn of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH) to take a common position by demanding the departure of Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant.

FENAMH condemns with the utmost severity the acts of violence, looting and vandalism, following the announcement by the Government of the increase in fuel prices at the pump https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24881-haiti-flash-the-price-of-gas-explodes-at-the-pump.html presents on behalf of all the mayors of Haiti, "his sympathies to the victims and expresses his concern about the future of those who lost their jobs after the looting and burning of several companies. "

"The Federation recognizes that the reaction of the population is the result of a lack of consultation in the decision-making processes of the Government, but also and above all the frustrations born of the dissatisfaction of the demands long expressed by the various social components of the country, in particular the most disadvantaged strata," stress FENAMH in its position and demands "the resignation of the Prime Minister, the formation of an opening Government with a clear roadmap incorporating the real concerns of the population[...]"

The mayors of Haiti also want all local elected officials to be part of the negotiations to resolve the crisis as well as the detachment of local authorities from the Ministry of the Interior and the provision to town halls, of local funds management of territorial development.
