Haiti - FLASH : The Deputy Tardieu condemns the discriminatory and racist statements of the outgoing PM

Saturday, following the resignation of the Prime Minister Lafontant, the Deputy Jerry Tardieu (Pétion-ville) reacted by firmly condemning the statements at the tribune of the Lower House of the outgoing Head of Government, who estimated that the inhabitants of Pétion-ville or Kenskoff should not run the country "[...] my father who was a missionary always told us: it is not the 'ti neg' of Pétion-ville or Kenskoff, who must come to lead the country [...]" says the departing Prime Minister.

"Although I am satisfied that Jack Guy Lafontant is no longer Prime Minister, I was surprised when he spoke of the people of Pétion-ville" declared Deputy Tardieu adding "When I analyze his statements, I even see a racist connotation and I quickly hope he explains to Pétion-ville what he meant [...]

At the highest level of the state we believe that leaders should have an inclusion speech and not a speech of exclusions. The speech that we must make is a speech that should advocate unity, solidarity is not a speech that advocates ying-yang.

I take this opportunity to say to Jack Lafontant, that he made a big mistake [in his statement], it is as if he considered that there were several categories of Haitians. The Haitians everywhere are the same, in Pétion-ville the Haitians live the same situation as the Haitians of other communes, there are problems of electricity, water, schools, expensive life [...]

[...] we must forget these old reflexes to begin to develop a positive, modern discourse that brings together Haitians and not a discourse that puts Haitians in front of each other.

As a Member of Parliament for Pétion Ville, I strongly condemn the statements of Prime Minister Lafontant who believes that the inhabitants of Pétion-Ville or Kenskoff should not run Haiti. This discriminatory, racist statement is unacceptable !"
