Haiti - Taekwondo : Cheyenne Lewis wins 2 gold medals for Haiti

Régine Lamur, the resigning Minister of Youth and Sports welcomes the performance in taekwondo performed by the young Haitian-American Cheyenne Lewis (22 years) who represented the colors of Haiti at the Pan Am International Open Taekwondo Championships in Sponkane, (Washington).

Ou of five athletes who represented Haiti in this competition and after the elimination of 3 men Taekwondo athletes from the start, Cheyenne Lewis in the women's 75kg category, qualified in her first bout by winning and a first medal of gold against Argentina's Evolo Gianella. Thereafter she won Gold Against Canada's Cuma Rachel.

With her two gold medals, she was named the best taekwondo woman in this tournament, impressing technicians with her talent, power and skill.

Born in the United States of Haitian father and Filipino mother, Cheyenne Lewis had already distinguished herself in this discipline by winning the gold medal last year at the President Cup and a silver medal at the United States Open last February. She intends to continue to make the pride of Haiti by floating high our two-color with the goal of gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

The outgoing Minister Lamur, presents her warmest congratulations to an athlete of great talent, a young woman determined to achieve the best performance in this discipline in order to honor Haiti.

Taekwondo is a martial art of South Korean origin.
