Haiti - Sports : Launch of the Presidency Cup 2018

Sunday in Cap-Haitien, Régine Lamur, the resigning Minister of Youth and Sports has proceeded to the official opening of the competitions of the 2018 Edition of the Presidency Cup. For more than a month, athletics, cycling and a football tournament will be organized across the country to allow young people to recreate themselves through healthy activities.

On Saturday, 52 cyclists took part in the first 60-kilometer stage of the cycling competitions held on the boulevard du Cap-Haïtien. Joseph Jean Willy of Léogâne's Aigle Rouge Club, James Augustin and Wilgens Pance of Camp Perrin's Club Faucon respectively dominated the pre-criterium of the Presidency Cup held in partnership with the Haitian Cycling Federation. After presenting the trophy, medals and other awards to the winners, Minister Lamur saluted the performance of 17-year-old Wilgens Péance, who finished third on the podium.

The inaugural ceremony of the football competitions took place at the St Victor Park of Cap-Haïtien in the presence of Stéphanie Auguste, the resigned Minister of Social Affairs who also plays an important role in the realization of the holiday activities and of the Presidency Cup. Fanfares, cheerleaders, jugglers, representatives of the 16 participating teams, ensured the show, enhanced by a Gala match between the team of the National Palace and the Veterans of Cap-Haïtien.

The Presidency Cup brings together athletes from the 10 departments and football teams of the 16 administrative regions of the Ministry: West-North, West-South, West-Center, North I, North II, South I, South II, Haut Artibonite, Low Artibonite, High Central Plateau, Low Central Plateau, North-East, North-West, South-East, Grand'Anse, Nippes.
