Haiti - Immigration : They call for

The members of the Coalition of Organizations of Haitian immigrants in Dominican Republic on Friday have called the local authorities to define, as soon as possible "an administrative procedure, equitable, efficient and transparent" in respect to deportations. They also called on Haitian authorities diplomatic and consular accredited in the country to "exercise a more active role in the protection of the rights of Haitians in the Dominican Republic".

Among the irregularities found by the latter during the repatriations we can cite :

  • The concerned are not entitled to a legal assistance

  • The situation is not reported to the consular authorities in a reasonable time

  • There is no trace of the immigrants arriving in the detention centers

  • The number of returnees transported is excessive for the capacity of the vehicle

  • Occasionally the use of force is made.

For the coalition, "these actions are not effective for resolving the situation of the immigration, but rather lead to the violation of the human rights of migrants" moreover, it makes this call to prevent that the 'Dominican citizens or unauthorized organizations carry out deportations of Haitian immigrants as occurred in the early months of the year'.
