Haiti - FLASH : American Airlines remove two direct flights to Port-au-Prince

As part of the evaluation of its services, American Airlines, which has been serving Haiti for 47 years, has decided to reduce the number of its flights to Haiti from 6 to 4 flights : 3 daily direct flights from Miami to Port-au-Prince and 1 daily flight to Cap-Haïtien. This reduction in flights will not affect airline staff in Haiti.

In a letter dated August 21, 2018, addressed to Renet Prévilon, Director of Customs at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the airline writes "[...] we informed the members of our team of our decision to put an end to the flights connecting Toussaint Louverture International Airport of Port-au-Prince to those of New York-JFK and Fort Lauderdale.

It was a painful but necessary decision, given the economic circumstances, particularly in an environment where the cost of fuel is high. American will continue to operate three daily flights connecting Port-au-Prince to Miami, from where we offer connections to 140 destinations worldwide. In addition, we will also continue to serve Cap-Haïtien with a daily flight from our Miami Hub [...]"

Reacting to this new Guy André Junior Francois the resigning Minister of Haitians Living Abroad said "It’s a big loss for us [...] But it’s an opportunity for other airlines to come aboard and provide direct service to Haiti."
