Haiti - Politic : Minimum wage, President Moïse met the CSS

Tuesday, at the request of the Superior Council of Salaries (CSS) President Jovenel Moïse, met the members of the CSS. At the heart of this meeting, 3 important points were addressed:

1) Harmonization in decision-making between the CSS and the Government;

2) Functioning of the Superior Council of Salaries (CSS);

3) State of play of the preparation of the 5th Report of the CSS.

Regarding the first point, Moïse insisted on the independence of the CSS in his decision making, while explaining what he expected of a minimum wage "I respect the independence of the CSS. I stress, however, that the minimum wage must take into account economic realities, including inflation and the high cost of living. A minimum wage must be economically sustainable and socially acceptable.

The advisers gave an update on the functioning of the CSS, as well as the material means necessary to accomplish its mission. They underlined to the Head of State, that the main function of the GSC is not to be summarized in a periodic fixing of the minimum wage levels in the different sectors. They echoed the Government's goal of a lasting social pact between workers and employers to ensure social stability and attract more investment.

With regard to social support measures, the President of the Republic indicated that the terms of reference of the new Government include the strengthening of the CSS and the Board of Directors of Social Security Bodies, so that the health insurance schemes and pension can function optimally.
