Haiti - Tennis : Naomi Osaka proud of her Haitian origins

Régine Lamur, the resigning Minister of Youth welcomes the brilliant performance of Naomi Osaka (20 years old) young tennis player of Haitian origin, who won Saturday, September 8 in Grand Slam final on the central court of the Municipal Park Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York at the expense of Serena Williams in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25476-haiti-flash-the-haitiano-japanese-naomi-osaka-wins-the-us-open-against-serena-william.html

"Born of a Haitian father and a Japanese mother, Naomi has always proudly evoked her Haitian origins and deserves our congratulations for having helped to project a positive image of Haiti, through her athletic performances especially in the last two weeks in the US Open," said Minister Lamur, who takes the opportunity to send special congratulations to Naomi's father, Léonard François, "who believed in his daughter's potential by participating in his progress, by investing in her talent and her passion for tennis."

Naomi Osaka who had already come to Haiti in October 2017 https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-22548-icihaiti-flash-a-haitian-japanese-world-star-of-tennis-visiting-haiti.html declared "I have no problem becoming an ambassador for my father’s country. Haiti deserves to be known by the world for its magnificent beauty and especially its delicious cuisine."

The Minister wants this US Open to be the first of a long series of titles and inaugurates a long and brilliant career for Naomi as that of her idol Serena Williams (36 years old) one of the legends of women's tennis world (23 titles won in the Grand Slam tournaments during the US Open: 7 in Australia, 3 at Roland Garros, 7 Wimbledon and 6 US Open)

Remember that to achieve the Grand Slam in tennis it is necessary to win the same year, the four major tournaments of the international circuit organized by the International Tennis Federation, namely :

- The Australian Open in Melbourne (hard surface "Plexicushion")

- The French Open (Roland-Garros on clay)

- Wimbledon in London (on grass)

- The US Open in New York (hard surface "Decoturf")
