Haiti - Elections : Jovenel Moïse met with the members of the CEP

Tuesday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse met with 8 of the 9 members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and Uder Antoine the Executive Director of the Council, around the organization of the next elections, planned in a little more than 12 months (October 2019) for the renewal of 1/3 of the Senate, of all the deputies and the complementary elections for the local authorities.

This included the formal transmission to the Executive of the electoral bill, the financial resources of the CEP and the financing of the electoral process, the renewal of the electoral map, the updating of the database, the setting up of adapted logistics and securing elections.

The preliminary version of the electoral law of the CEP was the subject of a first discussion and the Head of State made several remarks in particular on the electoral disputes and the mandate of the elected officials, indicated Guichard Doré Special Adviser of the Chief of State

Regarding the budget, which the CEP has already prepared, depending on the chosen option the next elections could cost between 50 and 75 million dollars. The most expensive option includes modernizing the voting process for the publication of results the same evening or in the next 24 to 48 hours... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25404-haiti-news-zapping.html

These budgetary considerations will be included in the next state budget for the first time in the history of Haiti, without knowing the amount that will be allocated to the organization of elections in the 2018-2019 budget.

Concerning the security of the elections, Guichard Doré reminds that this will be the first time, that Haiti will organize elections without the presence of a foreign military force and that arrangements will be made to compensate the absence of the Minustah which played a role important in the security of the elections.
