Haiti - Economy : David Pierre-Louis Haiti's Facebook Community Leadership Fellow

Pierre-Louis, a leader in the Haitian community’s social and economic development, Kay Tita founder in 2015, was one of 6,000 applications from 46 countries across the globe. He joins a cohort of just over 100 fellows and will receive up to US$50,000 from Facebook to support early-stage entrepreneurs in Port-au-Prince.

"I’ve seen that when our community comes together, when we’re vulnerable and honest with each other, great things happen," Pierre-Louis said. "This community of young, brilliant leaders are just steps away from creating a sustainable and thriving Port-au-Prince."

Facebook announced a new initiative in February 2018 to fund leaders with diverse perspectives. They all have the common goal of helping their communities thrive as they grow those communities on the social media platform.

"Community leaders often tell us that with additional support they could have more impact," according to Facebook’s announcement. "The Facebook Community Leadership Program is designed to empower leaders from around the world who are building communities through the Facebook family of apps and services."

Key focuses of the program include community resilience and issues, civic engagement, health and wellness, and education, and parenting.
