Haiti - Elections : Barack Obama and Dilma Rousseff stress the importance of the elections

The United States and the Brazil have today stressed the importance of the holding of the second round of the presidential elections in Haiti, which will take place tomorrow and have expressed their commitment to stability, to the strengthening of democratic institutions and the development of Haiti.

In a joint statement, the President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff and his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, which is in official visit to Brazil, stressed "the importance of respecting the commitments made by the international community in the reconstruction of Haiti."

The two heads of state, have defended the role played by the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) and the pertinence of the Organization of American States (OAS) as well as the Joint Electoral Observation Mission OAS/CARICOM (JEOM) in the electoral process.

Sunday, during the second round of elections, the Haitian people will have to choose between two candidates Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly, the one who will lead the country for the next 5 years and their Deputies and Senators.
