Haiti - NOTICE WEATHER : Risks of floods and landslides

On Wednesday, the Hydro Meteorological Unit of Haiti (UHM), together with the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management (SPGRD) and the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), launched a new weather notice for the whole country face the of flooding and ground movement risks due to the current weather situation and the persistence of rains.

Since Wednesday morning, the meteorological situation of the Greater Antilles is characterized by unstable humid air, linked to a wide area of bad weather, centered in the South West of the Caribbean Sea and the passage of a tropical wave located at West of the West Indies.

These conditions should favor storms locally over Haiti this Thursday in the afternoon and in the evening. The situation could even deteriorate from Friday and throughout the weekend, due to more frequent and sustained showers, mainly in the departments of Sud, Nippes and Grand-Anse.

The authorities are asking people in areas at risk of flooding, rocks fall and landslides to remain attentive and to apply rigorously the usual safety instructions in case of showers, especially strong and lasting, accompanied by thunderstorms.
