Haiti - Humanitarian : OECS calls on international community to help Haiti

The Commission of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) called on the international community to launch a rapid and coordinated relief effort to help the people and the Government of Haiti following the recent earthquake of magnitude 5.9 that struck northern Haiti on October 6, causing 17 dead, 333 injured, destroying 353 house and damaging 7,430 others as well as schools churches and other public buildings https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25774-haiti-flash-the-last-assessment-of-the-earthquake-is-heavier.html

The Director-General of the OECS, Didacus Jules, speaking from OECS Commission Headquarters, extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved, the government and the people of Haiti and declared "We stand in strong solidarity with our Caribbean family in Haiti and urge a rapid international relief effort to support in particular Port-de-Paix and other regions where hospitals are struggling to cope in the aftermath.

[...] I urge the international community to remember that the size of a natural disaster does not always reflect the depth of human suffering.

We urge international leadership to provide Haiti and its people [...] the emergency and development assistance of concerned and able nations all Haitians urgently need at this difficult time."
