Haiti - Elections : For Spain,

The new Ambassador of Spain in Haiti, Manuel Hernández Ruigómez hopes that the presidential election "will contribute to advance the reconstruction of Haiti [...] So far, we have a government coming out and we await the arrival of a new president and a new government to advance in the disbursement of the aid pledged by the international community for reconstruction projects"

Haitians must today choose between, the former first lady Mirlande Manigat and the singer Michel Martelly, a successor to President René Préval and renew a third of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

The new Ambassador today made a visit within Port-au-Prince with a group of observers from various countries at the request of the European Parliament. In the course of this day, the diplomat said that "everything is going relatively well considering the conditions under which the country is" referring to the crisis in Haiti.

Hernández, who visited several polling stations in suburban and downtown of Port-au-Prince, said having "found problems such as lack of ballots and unsealed ballot boxes, the irregularities reported by many citizens, but he believes that nobody can talk about a serious problem" in the circumstances.

About the effect, that may have the Former President Jean Bertrand Aristide, back in Haiti since Friday after seven years of exile in South Africa Hernández declared that this return "does not change the electoral process, as some might think." According to the Ambassador of Spain, the former president "keeps a low profile" and its presence does not interfere with the elections of the second round.
