Haiti - Justice : Towards the strengthening of the Judiciary Inspection

Following the workshop on the performance indicators of the Prosecutor's Offices and the inspection tools held in early October https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25713-haiti-news-zapping.html , the Minujusth Institutional Support Unit, as part of its mandate to strengthen the rule of law institutions in Haiti, organized this week a two-day workshop at the Kinam Hotel, for the purpose among others, to reinforce the Judicial Inspectorate, whose role is to control the Registrars and Prosecutor's Offices and to report to the Minister, for measures to improve their functioning and performance.

16 judicial inspectors from the Ministry of Justice and 3 Ministry officials participated in this workshop. The Ministry's inspectors come from two separate bodies: the Judicial Inspection Service proper said and the Registry and Prosecutor's Office.

The first day was devoted to the principles guiding the existing strategic development plan of the Judiciary Inspection and its general content while the work of the second day was aimed at integrating an analysis of the environment and the legal framework of the Judiciary Inspection to identify the mission, mandate, vision, objectives and priorities and adjust strategic directions.

Following this workshop, a committee was set up to propose in a short time, a strategic development plan of the Judicial Inspectorate for the next 3 or 5 years that will be submitted to the Minister of Justice.

Also planned: a capacity building and exchange of experiences workshop, scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2018, as well as inspection missions in the public prosecutor's offices of the 18 courts of first instance and 5 courts of appeal during the judicial year 2018-2019, in accordance with the governance component included in the agreement signed between the Haitian State and the United Nations system, setting a framework for Sustainable Development for the period 2017-2021 (UNDAF).
