Haiti - Politic : UNESCO alongside the Ministry of Culture

On Friday 19 October, Jean Michel Lapin, Minister of Culture, accompanied by members of his Cabinet and technical staff of the Ministry, met with UNESCO's Ambassador in Haiti Paul Gomis, with a view to drawing up a joint program lead to the establishment of a Sector Strategic Plan.

During this first working meeting, the two entities emphasized their respective priorities and reviewed their cooperation portfolio.

For Minister Lapin, the training of executives, the copyright, the situation of visual arts, in particular that of the cinema and the question of the state media in Haiti are, among others points that deserve special attention.

Gomis took the opportunity to present an update of the main UNESCO interventions in the country as well as a reminder of the various international conventions ratified by Haiti in the field of Culture.

If for Minister Lapin this working meeting is part of an approach for the Ministry to regain control of the cultural sector by developing a "sectoral leadership", the UNESCO Ambassador believes that this meeting should allow to develop and identify priorities and priority intervention platforms.

Other working sessions will be held between the Ministry and the UNESCO Office executives in order to achieve the establishment of an annual plan for collaboration between the two entities.
