Haiti - Politic : Survey on the perception of Haitians of the work of parliamentarians

The Citizen Observatory for the Institutionalization of Democracy (OCID) with the technical support of the National Democratic Institute conducted from May 30, 2018 to June 5, 2018 a survey on the opinion of the citizens Haitians about the work of their representatives in Parliament.

The purpose of this survey was to collect data on the frequency of meetings and/or interactions between citizens and elected officials (Deputies and Senators) in their constituency / department;

Know the degree of appreciation of the citizens on the quality of representation provided by their elected representatives;

Know the degree of appreciation of citizens on the performance of Parliament in its dual legislative function and control;

Assess the level of information that citizens have about the work of Parliament and the importance they attach to it.

The results presented in this 72-page report are followed by recommendations that will enable parliamentarians to make decisions to improve their image and their relationship with constituents.

  • 43% of citizens feel negatively about Parliament's work (mediocre 12% and very poor 31%)

  • Your Parliamentarians will defend your interests well: 69% think no (41% disagree and 28% strongly disagree)

  • The Senate plays its role well in controlling the actions of the government: 62% believe that no

  • Your Senators defend your interests well: 74% believe that no
