Haiti - Justice : The CSPJ reminds the lawyers strikers that justice can not be interrupted

Following the work stoppage since last October 9, lawyers of the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Port-au-Prince https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25953-haiti-news-zapping.html because of violence perpetrated by members of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) against members of their profession, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) in a note, while recognizing that the right to strike is guaranteed by the Haitian laws and international conventions without infringing individual liberties, particularly the rights of litigants recalls "Freedom is an inalienable right available to every individual, and by virtue of this principle, litigants have the right to access justice" pointing out that justice is "a public service that can not be interrupted under any circumstances".

The CSPJ recalls Article 25.1 of the Constitution which states that "No one may be questioned in the absence of a lawyer or witness of his choice. Also, the Superior Council calls on the authorities concerned to take all the necessary measures to facilitate the proper functioning of the tribunals of the TPI of Port-au-Prince so as not to penalize the litigants.
