As part of the establishment of a binational quality structure and strengthening of quality infrastructure, the Bureau of Standardization of Haiti (BHN, inaugurated in 2012 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7405-haiti-economy-inauguration-of-haitian-bureau-of-standards-and-of-metrology-laboratory.html ) and the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL), a week of work and training was organized in Santo Domingo, to define a common work plan around standardization processes and metrology.

Recall that the BHN has signed a binational cooperation agreement with IDOCAL to provide more knowledge and technical assistance in the areas of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment to facilitate trade between the two nations. Note that prior to this agreement, workshops on quality infrastructure in the productive sectors had already been organized as part of other projects.

During this week, the delegation of the BHN carried out an internship in the field of metrology, working with the technicians of INDOCAL, the Haitian delegation visited several Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution stations, was informed about the operation of the dispensers and made measurements with the gravimeter method.

Other practices implemented by INDOCAL have highlighted the use, handling and calibration of flow meters, used in the stations for LPG measurements. The BHN delegation also visited the José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport, where they checked the scales used for baggage weighing.

At the end of this busy week, Dominican standards on food labeling, food hygiene and general principles of food hygiene, an illustrated catalog of standards, among other documents (translated into French), were given to their Haitian counterparts.
