Haiti - Social : People infected with HIV, stigmatized and marginalized

Under the aegis of the Association of Haitian Women Infected and Affected by HIV, a conference-debate was organized around the theme "Human Rights and HIV / AIDS".

Speaking at this conference Me Renan Hedouville Protector of the Citizen presented a dark picture of the situation of people living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA) in Haiti "Stigma, discrimination and exclusion at work are frequent cases that infringe the rights of PLHIV. The rights of people affected by the virus such as, non-discrimination, housing, care, social security, assistance and well-being are violated. They are subject to disqualification and they must also endure the hostility of their community and work and has become a threat to workers' rights," emphasizing that there is a great legal vacuum in terms of protection of their rights.

Hedouville said, "The right of people living with the AIDS virus is closely linked to human rights, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted and proclaimed by the United Nations Assembly on December 10, 1948. Reiterating its commitment to work for this vulnerable layer of society.
