Haiti - Economy : Consumer Price Index +1.5% in November

According to the new Consumer Price Index (CPI base 100, 2017-2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26268-haiti-economy-a-new-index-of-consumer-prices-more-efficient.html ), in November 2018 amount to 109.6 against 108.1 the previous month, a monthly increase of + 1.4% and inflation of + 14.5% yoy (last 12 months).

This rise in inflation is due to the behavior of functions such as : Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+ 1.5% over one month and + 16.8% over one year), Furniture, household goods and household maintenance (+1.9 % over one month and + 18.7% over one year), Health (+ 2.1% over one month and + 22.1% over one year) and Leisure (+ 3.2% over one month and + 24.80% over one year).

Products that have seen the strongest year-on-year hikes :

Food :

Imported rice (+ 24.7%), meat (+ 21.5%), cod (+ 22.4%), chadec (+ 24.0%), banana (+ 22.8%), cassava (+ 28.5% and true tree (+ 30.5%).

Furniture, household items...:

Invent (+ 20.7%), stove (+ 21.7%), refrigerator (+ 30.8%), insecticide (+ 27.9%).

Health:

Medications (+ 27.2%), corrective eyewear (+ 14.3%) and hospitalization costs (+ 16.1%).

Leisure :

Radio (+ 30.1%), television subscription (+ 39.6%) and cinema (+ 32.8%).

Imported Products increased in November (+ 16.6%), while the Local Products Price Index grew by + 13.8%.

At the regional level, the highest monthly inflation was observed in the cross-cutting regions (+ 1.8%) and the Metropolitan Area (+ 1.6%). While over the last 12 months, the departments of the North (+ 14.5%), Rest West and Transversal (+ 14.4%) posted the largest increases.

Finally, price increases in all geographic regions contributed to the November 2018 inflation across the country. However, the most striking annual variations are observed in the cross-border regions (Center and Artibonite + 15.3%) and Metropolitan Area (+ 14.5%).

General index : + 14.3% over one year + + 1.4% over the month of October

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: month + 1.4%, year + 14.5%

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: month + 1.5%, year + 16.8%

Clothing and footwear items: month + 1.3%, year + 16.0%

Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels: months + 1.2%, year + 13.5%

Furniture, household goods and household maintenance: month + 1.9% year + 18.7%

Health: months + 2.1%, year + 22.1%

Transport: months + 0.5%, year + 5.2%

Communications: months + 0.5%, year + 3.2%

Leisure time: 3.2% month, year + 24.8%

Lessons: month 0.0%, year + 10.8%

Restaurants: month 1.0%, year + 15.1%

Miscellaneous goods and services: month 1.0%, year + 15.4%
