Haiti - Politic : The environmental impact taken into account in all planning documents

The Ministry of the Environment (MdE), through the Directorate of Water Resources (DRE) and the Environmental Assessment Bureau (BNEE) participated in a meeting organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Interministerial Committee for Territorial Development (CIAT), around the validation of urban plans, for the municipalities of Dame-Marie, Beaumont, Jérémie and Les Cayes. In addition to the MdE, this meeting brought together the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Public Works, and the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA).

According to the Validation Committee, 7 cities in the South, South-East and Grande Anse departments have completed the development of their urban planning documents and are seeking technical validation from the State authorities. These are the Town Halls of Côtes-de-Fer, Aquin and Port-Salut which benefited from the technical support of Group 8 and Beta firms, the Ministry of Tourism and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). As for Dame Marie, Beaumont, Jérémie and Les Cayes, their planning document was produced thanks to the help of UN-Habitat and the European Union, through the program Urbayiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26411-haiti-politic-launch-of-urbayiti-a-42-billion-gourdes-program.html

As part of this dossier, the CIAT Technical Secretariat organized two meetings with the technical committee during the month of December. The Ministry of the Environment, a member of the Technical Validation Committee, is there to ensure that the environmental impact component is taken into account in all planning documents.
