Haiti - FLASH : Heavy human toll on the roads during the holidays

According to the former Director of the National Ambulance Center, Garnel Michel Coordinator of the Haitian Organization Technical and Operational Services for Accident (STOP-Accidents), from Friday, December 21, 2018 to Sunday, January 6, 2019, 61 traffic accidents have made 31 dead and 195 wounded for a total of 226 casualties. An alarming situation with nearly 4 accidents per day highlights STOP-Accidents

92.95% of deceased victims were under 50 years old, 19 died on the spot, the others died in hospital (including 7 children). More than 70% of the accidents occurred in the metropolitan area and on the national roads #1 (to and from the North) and #2 (to and from the South).

This assessment was conducted in partnership with the National Ambulance Center and the Haitian Red Cross. However, due to a lack of resources, the STOP-Accident organization is unable to monitor the state of health of the wounded, some of whom die as a result of their injuries and are not included in this report.
