Haiti - Chile : A 26-year-old Haitian savagely stabbed in the street

Tuesday, a Haitian Delicienne Sajuste (26 years old) was savagely stabbed by her ex-partner on Tralcamahuida street, in El Quisco, a seaside resort located 120 km southwest of Santiago, Chile, after leaving her elderly daughter five months with friends, before going to work.

On the way to work, his ex-partner, a 29-year-old man, approached her and after a heated argument, stabbed her at least twelve times in the chest and abdomen. When passers-by tried to intervene, the man took a bottle of hydrochloric acid out of his pocket and tried to kill himself by swallowing the contents.

Both were rushed to the San Antonio Hospital, where the woman's death was confirmed, while her unidentified assailant was in critical condition. On Wednesday, authorities in the province of San Antonio filed a complaint against the attacker.

Commissioner Robinson Alarcon of the Investigative Police Homicide Squad (IDP) said that the Haitian couple arrived in Chile in 2017, separated for five months and that there had already been violence on the part of the man, who had tried several times to return to live with his ex-partner.

According to data from the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality, since the beginning of the new year, four women have already been murdered in Chile. In 2018, 42 women were victimized by their husbands, partners or boyfriends, against 43 in 2017.
