Haiti - Social : Nearly 132,000 Haitians deported or turned back from DR in 2018

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic announced that in 2018, nearly 57,000 people of Haitian origin in an irregular migratory situation were deported to Haiti, while nearly 75,000 others were turned back in Haiti at the border, as they tried to enter the Dominican territory illegally.

Hundreds of foreigners from other countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Germany, Belgium, Bermuda, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, United States, France, Italy, Mali, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Turkey, Venezuela and Vietnam, in irregular migratory situation were also deported to their country of origin. In total in 2018, 132,322 people were deported or expelled from the Dominican territory in 2018, because they did not respect the law on migration.

According to official data, the foreign population in the Dominican Republic stands at 847,979 people, of which 88.5% were born in Haiti or descendants of Haitian immigrants (excluding illegal migrants whose estimates vary between 500,000 and 1.5 million of people, mostly of Haitian origin).
