Friday as part of the economic cooperation and food aid agreement between Haiti and Japan was held the ceremony of handing over of a donation of 5,937 tons of rice (Japanese and American varieties) to the food storage center of the Office of Monetization located at Port Lafiteau (Cabaret), in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Haiti, Mizuno Mitsuaki, Mrs. Atsuko Yonezu Counselor of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Aimé Ignace Saint-Fleur, Director General the Office of Monetization of Development Assistance Programs (BMPAD) and several executives of the institution as well as representatives of sectoral ministries.

Recall that this donation is part of the Food Cooperation Agreement (KR 2017) signed in late January 2018 between the two governments https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23459-haiti-humanitarian-donation-of-$3-6m-from-japan-for-the-rice-purchase.html . As a result of this agreement, the Government of Japan made available to the Government of Haiti a total of 400 million Japanese Yen (± US $ 3.6 million) as a grant.

Note that this project is not limited to the supply of rice, because the funds generated by the sale of this rice in Haiti (Counterpart Fund), will achieve socio-economic projects across the national territory.
