Haiti - Reconstruction : Edmond Mulet, met Leonel Fernández

The President Leonel Fernández received yesterday evening at the National Palace, to Santo Domingo, Edmond Mulet, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General. For over one hour, they discussed of the economic and social recovery and of the development of Haiti. Also attended the meeting Carlos Morales Troncoso, the Dominican Foreign Minister.

Among the topics discussed at this meeting, employment and investment, tourism, agriculture, education, textile industry, exports, industry and the capacity of the Haitian Government to generate its own resources. Initiatives that will be supported by the United Nations, said Edmond Mulet after his meeting.

During this meeting, Leonel Fernández and his guest also reviewed the work undertaken by the United Nations, the challenges of the the new Haitian government and the contributions of the Dominican Republic in terms of humanitarian aid but also in terms reconstruction of the country, in particular the construction of the new university to the Cap Haitien.

"What we need now, is to create jobs" has indicated Edmond Mulet, a situation that the United Nations and President Michel Martelly, have identified and they intend to resolve through incentives for foreign investment. The Special Representative of the UN noted that when you have more than 650,000 people still living under tents, to overcome the situation implies that we must act as quickly as possible to avoid social unrest.
