Haiti - Politic : Stop of the collection of trash in the capital, for lack of fuel

The town hall of Port-au-Prince informs that the road service is obliged to temporarily suspend its operations because the gasoline reserves of the Town Hall are exhausted and the shortage of petroleum products continues to gain momentum in the local market.

Stressing that this situation also has serious repercussions on the Truitiers landfill, where the municipal garbage trucks can not be unloaded.

The Communale Administration, while apologizing to residents informs that the road service will resume as soon as the garbage trucks of the Town Hall can be supplied normally in fuel.

While the population has experienced for 3 days increasing difficulties to obtain fuel, the long lines of vehicles of all kinds testify it, in front of the rare gas stations still having the precious fuel, the Office of Monetization of the Programs of Aid to Development (BMPAD) said in a note made public yesterday that the boat to supply the country is docked since Friday, March 29 and is currently unloading its cargo in the terminals of Thor Volant, Tevasa Varreux and Trista Martissant. In an attempt to reassure the population BMPAD claims that 165,000 barrels of gasoline will arrive Wednesday evening, April 3, and that other vessels carrying respectively 65,000 barrels of diesel, 255,000 barrels of gasoline and another 140,000 barrels of diesel will arrive in Port-au-Prince , April 4th, 7th and 15th...

However, the BMPAD refrains from talking about "shortage" and to mention that the latter which affects the country again is caused once again by an unpaid fuel debt by the Government with the supplier Novum, which does not intend to unload its fuel, as long as the Haitian state will not pay Novum a multi-million dollar debt...

Discussions are ongoing between Novum and the Government for the payment of this debt, which told the Spanish Agency EFE, that disbursement would not be done for a few days....

In the meantime, the lines of vehicles are stretching in front of the gas stations and the frustration of the users is only increasing...
