Haiti - Social : An old woman accused of witchcraft

Roselène Cadet's house, a 70-year-old woman who was unfairly accused of being a witch, was almost set on fire by an angry crowd in Cap-Destré (Bas Tapion / Petit-Goâve).

On Wednesday, Ms. Roselène Cadet denounced on Radio Préférence FM, the accusations of Ms. Noula Baptichon a shopkeeper at which she had just made food purchases, who claimed that she had cast a spell on her baby that would be got sick after leaving...

Without even consulting a doctor, Noula Baptichon, distraught, carrying in her arms the baby alerting many neighbors about what had happened, went strongly accompanied, towards the home of Roselène Cadet who was absent. Interpelling the crowd Noula shouted, "I'm taking my baby here because he's starting to suffer as soon as the old lady left my shop." The crowd threatened to burn the house but thanks to the intervention of one of Ms. Cadet's daughters, the worst was avoided. Upon her return from the church, Ms. Roselène Cadet proclaimed her innocence and filed a complaint with the Peace Court and the police station against Ms. Noula Baptichon for false accusation.

According to the latest medical information on the baby's health, the harm the child suffered had nothing to do with witchcraft.
