Haiti - Security : 50 Haitian boat-people intercepted north of Cap Haitien

The Robert Yered' crew of the Miami Coast Guard spotted about 85 km north of Cap-Haïtien and intercepted earlier this week a poorly equipped 30-foot boat in which piled risking their lives 50 Haitians (36 men and 14 women).

After the trans-shipment of migrants, the boat carrying the illegal immigrants was sunk to avoid any future navigation drama. All Haitian migrants aboard "Robert Yered" received food, water and basic medical care.

Saturday in a statement Captain Jason Ryan, Chief of Coast Guard Implementation in the 7th District, said that these missions in the region were enhancing the security of illegal migrants and helping to combat human trafficking that endangers the lives of people and enrich the smugglers...

The Haitians were later repatriated to Haiti on board the Cutter Vigilant (WMEC-617) of the US Coast Guard.
