Haiti - FLASH WEATHER : Cabaret underwater, several victims and significant damage

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) informs that following the torrential rains that fell on the Commune of Cabaret May 29, a flood made one death and 5 missing, including in Canaan. National Road #1 was damaged at Bethel Bridge.

The DPC expresses its sincere sympathy to the relatives and relatives of the victims and strongly reminds the inhabitants of the areas at risk of flood, rock fall and landslide that they must remain attentive and apply rigorously the usual safety instructions in case of rain to minimize damage.

In addition, the Town Hall of Croix-des-Bouquets brings its solidarity to the victims of the floods in the commune following the rains which fell on the country during this week and which caused floods and considerable damage in the commune, especially in the areas of Canaan, Ona-Ville, Jérusalem and Corail...

Several houses were flooded putting families in difficult situations. The Municipal Council is saddened by this situation and shares the grief of the families affected.

The Council underlines that these floods are the result of bad management of the environment and urbanization in these areas since 2010, by the previous administrations. Despite the interventions of the Town Hall, the commune does not have sufficient resources to correct this situation and calls on the central power to intervene urgently in the disaster areas and those exposed to the risk of floods to protect and save lives, particularly as the hurricane season begins on June 1st.

The Municipal Council calls on the crucienne population to be vigilant and cautious and to obey the security instructions of the authorities. The municipal council also encourages residents to respect building principles and to behave better in their environment
