Haiti - Elections : Martelly calls the IC to not recognize the results of legislative

Four days before the opening of the first session of the National Assembly of the 49th Legislature, scheduled April 27 in the parliamentary calendar, during which constitutional amendments must be debated and voted, President Michel Martelly has formally requested, Friday, April 22, to the international community "to not recognize the results of legislative elections" marred by fraud in favor of the ruling party (INITE).

In a statement of press office "The president-elect finds that these results have been strangely handled at the legislative level, where senators and deputies elected who were well ahead at the first round are systematically excluded in favor of candidates close to INITE, the ruling party. These results are unacceptable, and does not reflect the popular will.

The President-elect Michel Martelly requests that the legislative results as published by the CEP are not recognized by the international community (IC). The Haitian people voted for change and its vote must be inevitably respected.

He calls to the OAS for the sending of an emergency mission for the creation in the immediate of an Independent commission of revision to evaluate and clarify these results with the support of the other international agencies already engaged in the process. He invites the President René Préval does not endorse the publication of these results before the publication of a report of this commission."

Considering the numerous protests of the population, following the publication of these results, Joseph Michel Martelly appeals for calm and said "sharing the indignation of the population."
