On Friday, officials from the Ministry of National Education met with the main officials of the two employee unions (SEMENFP and SPEMENFP) in order to take stock of the demands and proposed solutions envisaged, in a relaxed and mutually respectful atmosphere.

Meniol Jeune, the Director General of the Ministry said he listened to union members in order to find a way out for full recovery of activities at the Ministry https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27960-haiti-politic-new-alarm-call-from-the-ministry-of-national-education.html which must continue to offer its services to the population, especially in this particular period to 10 days of the beginning of the State examinations.

On their side, listing their demands (salary alignment, debit card, salary increase, better working conditions, appointment of contract employees, promotion to be granted to employees who have been waiting for several months, etc...), the union leaders asked for clear answers about the expectations of their members.

Jackson Pléteau, Cabinet Director of the Minister of National Education Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet and Jacques Yvon Pierre, Technical Coordinator at the Cabinet, tried to shed some light on the demands of the trade unionists and the efforts undertaken by Minister Cadet in despite a difficult context. They demonstrated the Ministry's commitment to progressively meet the demands of unions that are directly dependent on the Minisry's powers and that are realistic.

For claims that are beyond the scope of the Ministry, they indicated that requests will be forwarded to the highest authorities with the establishment of a joint group that will be set up to support the monitoring process. In this sense, a memorandum of understanding will have to be signed between the parties recording the commitments on both sides. It should be noted that this working meeting was held separately with the leaders of the two unions concerned.

For the Ministry, this social dialogue initiated in respect of each party "probably augurs interesting prospects for the release of the situation in the Ministry."
