Haiti - Bahamas : More than 300 boat people fleeing Haiti intercepted in 10 days

The exodus of Haitians fleeing Haiti is intensifying, due to violence, the socio-political crisis and the catastrophic economic situation in Haiti.

On Saturday, June 22, authorities in the Bahamas announced the interception of a boat and the arrest of 102 irregular migrants (90 men and 12 women) from Haiti attempting to enter the Bahamas, specifically on Inagua Island, the largest in the South of the Bahamas archipelago located 182 km from CapHaïtien (Northern Haiti)

The interception of the dangerously overloaded vessel was carried out by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF), in collaboration with the Immigration Department, about 48 km north-west of Inagua.

The immigrants were transferred to Inagua, where they were handed over to the local authorities to repatriate them to Haiti, according to the RBDF.

Recall that near the same place another boat had already been intercepted last June 13 with onboard more than 200 Haitians https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-27992-icihaiti-social-200-haitian-boat-people-intercepted-in-southwest-bahamas.html or a total of 300 in 10 days, which is, according to the Government of the Bahamas, the largest number of illegal Haitian migrants detained since the beginning of the year.

All will be returned to their country later
