Renan Hédouville, the Protector of the Citizen, condemns the acts of violence against the media and journalists, acts that are becoming very worrying faced a climate of political intolerance endangering democratic gains and human rights principles.

It recommends to associations of journalists to the bosses of media, to accentuate, through an awareness campaign or public debates, the plea for the protection of the journalists and the premises of the media in times of disturbances or public tensions.

Renan Hédouville asked the authorities concerned to assume their responsibility in relation to the freedom of the press and the right to information in accordance with the international instruments for the protection of human rights.

On the morning of Monday, June 24, a Radio Télé Métropole minibus was stoned by hooded individuals, while a team from the station was preparing to cover an opposition demonstration.

On the evening of Monday, June 24, heavily armed men carrying bulletproof vests attacked Marc Carl Dupiton, a correspondent for Radio Tele Ginen in Saint-Marc while he was in his vehicle on the Nationale #1 towards his private residence.
