Haiti - Politic : The opening of Parliament finally took place

The validation of powers and the swearing of parliamentarians, which was announced as postponed finally took place. The Government published Monday in the official gazette "Le Moniteur" a list of elected from the second round of parliamentary elections, whose was provisionally excluded, 19 parliamentarians (17 deputies and 2 senators), following the suspect victories observed in the final results of the second round of legislative elections, while waiting the results of investigations of the Joint Mission OEA/CARICOM (JEOM), which should in principle make its findings today, Tuesday, April 26, 2011...

The 49th Legislature has thus held Monday evening, its inaugural session. In groups of six, the 79 deputies were sworn under the provisional presidency of deputy of Carrefour, Élie Blaise the dean [INITE member]. A ceremony that opened the way to the convocation of the first National Assembly, under parliamentary calendar for April 27 and that should allow, in the period up to May 9, 2011, the ratification of the amendment of the constitution, which involves 50 Articles, to be voted separately.

Tuesday, the House of Deputies as the Senate, will elect their first office, which should without surprise return to INITE which, with its allies, could meet at least 17 Senators and fifty Deputies.

The session of the 49th Legislature, which should have started on the second Monday of January, finally opens with more than four months late. With an initial duration of five months, this legislature, in a very short time, will have to consider the proposed amendment of the constitution, left by the previous legislature and must necessarily conclude before the end of the session, on 9 May.

The ceremony of validation of this April 25th was preceded by violent demonstrations close to the Parliament where demonstrators torched four vehicles. The day has also been particularly busy in the high Central Plateau, where traffic has been paralyzed on the border town of Belladère and Maïssade.
