Haiti - Canada : PNH trained in first aid 26/04/2011 13:41:26
A memorandum of understanding on the formation of officers of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) was signed at the Haitian Police Academy, between the PNH, Minustah and the Canadian NGO "St. John Ambulance." At the signing ceremony were present among others the the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti, Henri-Paul Normandin, the Vice-Chancellor of St. John Ambulance, Richard Bruce, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Kevin Kennedy, nd several senior members of the PNH, including the Director General Mario Andrésol. Under this agreement, about 50 master trainers, 450 trainers and 7,000 officers of the HNP will be trained. The Minustah through the "development pillar of the PNH" will participate in this initiative by providing instructors. This project concerns all components of the Haitian police institution, including firefighters, police, coast guards, border guards and correctional services. It enjoys financial support from The Global Peace and Security Fund (GPSF) of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. With this training in basic first aid, the officers of the PNH may intervene in case of accidents and injuries. The partnership also aims to educate leaders in emergency planning to better anticipate disasters and other emergencies. The various speakers have praised the initiative of the Canadian NGO "St. John Ambulance. For Ambassador Henri-Paul Normandin, "the training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation received by the trainees is an important step in managing problems of disaster." Note that even before the signing of this agreement, "St. John Ambulance" was hard at work in Haiti. Thirty officers of the PNH have received, during the signing ceremony, their certificates after training in first aid. This group consisted of master trainers, instructors and emergency workers who will participate in the training of 7,000 other employees of the Haitian police institution.
