Haiti - Grand-Goâve : Blackout, a generator of EDH confiscated by the population

Monday at a joint press conference, officials of the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) : Kaleb Verdieu, Director of the office of EDH of Petit-Goâve, Coicou Jackson, Regional Director, Gibsonne Bazile, Office Manager of the EDH of Grand-Goâve as well as Pinchinat Maxo, Mayor of Grand-Goâve, Justin Léner aka "Tinènè" member of the Administration Council of the Communal Section and Hernsly Joseph Representative of the firm Haytrac, provided an update around the blackout and the confiscation by the population of a faulty Genset from Haytrac to Grand-Goâve.

The Mayor Pinchinat Maxo urged the population of Grand-Goâve to hand over to EDH the Generator retained for several days. He said that this group must be diagnosed and repaired in Port-au-Prince and then brought back to Petit-Goâve to allow the two communes to plan their patron saint's feast in the light...

"Tinènè" justified this confiscation by explaining "We did a great service to Haytrac by keeping the Generator, because no safety officer accompanied the truck that was to bring it to the capital" underlining "The passage of this Group in Martissant was a risk."

Director Kaleb Verdieu of EDH said he could not set a specific date for the restoration of electricity, saying the Group must first be returned by the population to be repaired in Port-au-Prince before coming back and restoring electricity.

Booz Bellerice, a citizen of Grand-Goâve, who is very up against the leaders of the EDH, the Haytrac and the authorities in place, has made a condition "the generator confiscated can leave Grand-Goâve only if Haytrac sends firstly, another replacement group "An opinion shared by Waguel Tristant, a very active activist from Petit-Goâve who gave until August 1 to find a solution to this energy crisis...

The conference ended prematurely amidst tensions ...
